Idiophone - Struck Directly - Wooden Gong

This wooden gong comes from the Puna-Eshire people, who live in the southwestern region of Gabon, along the coast. It depicts a female head and a face. Probably a ritual object. Handcarved from wood, with color pigments. Separate carved bat/stick attached with braided string. Usage traces and drying cracks. Skilled carving possibly for art market.
