This ivory Zande trumpet/horn shows much usage and age. The top finial shows a figure sitting on a stool with arms to the side and red beads strung around the neck. Above is a high coiffure wrapped in braided fibers, twisted cloth, and cowries. The Zande reside in Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Sudan. The word "Azande" means "the people who possess much land."
