ca. Mid-20th century

Top blown bulbous flutes from the Mossi play an important part in mask dances. They imitate the tones and language patterns of the local languages and give voice to a mask. Hand carved from a single piece of wood, with groove decoration and two finger holes for pitch changes. Usage traces and a nice patina.
