Korea
Korea

Early 20th Century

The Korean Changgo or juanggu is an hourglass-shaped two-headed drum. Its body is made of wood, and the drum heads are made of animal skin. The left drum head (bukpyeon) is covered with a thicker hide (cow), producing the lower tone, and is played with the palm. The right drum head (chaepyeon) is played with a bamboo stick and has a thinner skin (dog) for a higher tone.
