The Cornetto was developed around the beginning of the 14th century, making it a contemporary of the early slide trumpets. It remained in common use well into the 17th Century. This cornetto (Reproduction) is a leather-covered conical wooden pipe about 24 inches (60 centimetres) long, octagonal in cross section, with finger holes and a small horn or ivory mouthpiece.
