Bach Stradivarius Model 37 ML trumpet played and owned by Randall G. (Randy) Holmes. Randy began playing trumpet at the age of 10 in school. He studied with renowned trumpet player/teacher Edward Brauer, who was a member of the staff of the NBC radio studio. While attending the University of Missouri in Columbia, Randy’s reputation began to build, receiving awards at two UMKC Jazz Festivals, and recognition in ‘Down Beat Magazine’ as soloist with UMC Studio Band at the Tulsa Jazz Festival. Since 1980, Randy has been Jazz Trumpet instructor at Webster University. In support of Jazz throughout St. Louis, he has served as a founding member of Webster Jazz Repertory Ensemble (1987), St. Louis Brass Ensemble (1984), and St. Louis Jazz Repertory Quintet (1988). Since 1975, he has fronted various small jazz groups under his own name, performing jazz standards as well as original materials. Randy has performed/recorded with and for St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under Leonard Slatkin, Richard Hayman, and Doc Severinsen. Some of the jazz luminaries he has performed with include Toshiko Akiyoshi, Louis Bellson, Dave Brubeck, John Faddis, Rob McConnell, George Russel, Bobby Shew, Ed Shaughnessey, Lew Tabzckin and Clark Tarry as well as backing Perry Como, Vic Damone, Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Greco, Johny Mathis, Wayne Newton, Nancy Wilson, Clarence Clemons, the Four Tops, the Spinners and the Temptations. The Bach 37 bell is the most popular along with the 72 bell. ML means it is a medium-large bore and measures .460" in diameter.
