1800's Circular Post Horn with Leather Wrap. Men who drove the stagecoaches carried both their rifle and a post horn. When they entered the town, they would signal with the horn, so the townspeople would know that the mail had arrived. They would also sound another signal when they left. Hence, post (men) horn.
