Lulua Ceremonical Trumpet

Demoncratic Republic of Congo
Lulua

Wood
ca. Mid 20th century

Height: 32 inches
Aerophone - Lip Vibrated - Horn

Large expressive trumpet from the Lulua people of the southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The carving on this trumpet renders intricate scarification designs on the face and neck of a man sitting with a nice braided beard. The large facial features are majestic and bold, suiting the regal status that this person holds. The bottom of the trumpet is carved with a tribal pattern of crisscrosses. This big and expressive sculpted trumpet is hand carved from one piece of wood. Excellent skilled carving possibly for art market.
