5-Key Clarinet "ES"

United States

Boxwood, Bone/Horn, Brass
ca. 1815

Length: 19.5 inches

The five-key clarinet is the standard instrument of the Classical period. (Mozart wrote for the 5-Key Clarinet). Even though some Classical clarinets have sometimes more than five keys, they are based on this model. This golden color boxwood clarinet with black bone/horn ferrules, is clearly marked "ES" three times. In German, "ES" designates E-Flat. The brass square key covers are flat and springs are attached to keys mounted in blocks. The ligature is not original to the clarinet.
