Guitar

Classic Guitar - Pagannini type

Paris, France
Western Europe

Spruce, Maple, Mother-of-Pearl, Ivory, and Ebony
ca. 1820's

Labeled: Husson & Duchene, Rue Grenetat 15, Paris

This small Parlor Guitar, is labeled: Husson & Duchene, Rue Grenetat 15, Paris. This is possibly incorrect, as the maker is believed to be Le Cote. This Parlar Guitar has a fine spruce top, with maple back and sides. Please note that the back and sides are maple laminated to very close-grained spruce, visiable on inside. The bridge is serpentine-ebony. What is amazing is the beautiful inlay and fingerboard with 11 scenes of Paris carved in Mother-of-Pearl, ivory and ebony. Date of manufacture is approximately 1820's. Instrument is all original except for bridge scrolls. Providence: Alfred E. Thorpe Collection
