Cornopeans

Koehler Echo Cornopean, 1863-1881

35 Henrietta St., Covent Garden, London
Western Europe

Silver
@1863-1881

Koehler's Patent Harmonic Cornopean, Koehler & Son, Makers, 35 Henrietta St., Covent Garden, London. No Exhibition medal.

An all original silver echo cornopean from around 1863-1881, stamped on the bell: Koehler's Patent Harmonic Cornopean, Koehler & Son, Makers, 35 Henrietta St., Covent Garden, London. An extra valve was used to cut out the main bell sound and activate the mute bell, making this four-valves. Koehler horns made between 1834 - 1863 usually carried the 35 Henrietta Street address and after 1851-62 the Exhibition medals. This Echo Cornet does not have the Exhibition medal, however, "The New Langwell Index" shows that 'Koehler & Son', were at the 35 Henrietta Street address from 1863-81, which leads me to believe it places this Echo Cornopean between 1863-1881. Very nice gilt work around the tubing.
