Tambura / Tamburitza - Farkaš System - tear drop

Republic of Croatia
Eastern Europe

Wood, metal, fiber
Late 1800's

This tear-drop shaped body tambura, in the Farkaš system, show only the first 5 frets as full-size. From there, there are two rows of half frets; on the right side a diatonic row and on the left all the frets in between. Together they form the chromatic range. The tuning head is flat with a sideways curl to the right, and the tuning machines are of the tamburitza type (see Croatia), with a curly metal cover plate on the front.
