Gabon
Puna

Wood
c. Mid 20th century

The Punu people reside along the upper Ngoumie River, living in independent villages. This single slit gong with two heads represents the spirit of ancestors and is commonly found throughout western and central Gabon. The natural wood color drum is believed to have a judiciary function, used by chiefs to consult with the ancestors for advice.
