Flute - WhistleFra Fra Flute - CeremonialNorthern Ghana Wood Length: 13 inches Upright flutes such as this Fra Fra Flute are common among the various peoples of the Western Sudan. They are played either singly or in concert with other instruments such as gongs, drums and small bells. They are held close to the lower lip and blown across to produce a pleasant high pitched tone. They are often used by men and boys during ceremonies and dances. As an integral parts of social life, they serve to provide musical support to important rites of passage for young and old.
