Chordophone - Zither - Tube

The Valiha is a twanging tube zither that comes from the Island of Madagascar, off the southeast coast of Africa. The valiha consists of a piece of bamboo with strings attached at both ends, running parallel with the tube. Small pieces of wood are inserted underneath the strings, making them taut and allowing them to vibrate as they are plucked with the fingers. The tube can be held upright, or under the arm.
