Drum

Korwar Style Drum

Waropen Village, East of Geelvink Bay
Melanesia - Papua New Guinea

Wood, lizard skin
Collected in 1954

Length: 25.5 inches; Diameter: 6.75 inches

Attractive drum with handle decoration of two carved human figures separated by typical Korwar scrollwork. All the carving is original. This drum was clearly made and used for some time before collected in 1954 at the village of Waropen, as there is a nice patina on the handle.
