Flute/Whistle

Tairona Bird Ocarina (Reproduction)

Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria, Columbia
Tairona

Clay
1980s

The Ocarina (a globular flute) was widely used among the people of Mesoamerica. Examples have been found by archaeologists in both places of prestige and among commoners. This reproduction bird ocarina is a copy of a Pre-Columbian Tairona pottery bird whistle that is also in the Hartenberger World Music Collection. Many ocarinas of the people of Mesoamerica are still a mystery to us, and much research is still needed before a better understanding about these musical. This Ocarina is a REPRODUCTION - MADE FOR TOURIST MARKET
